Kvitøya (“white island” or “Gillis country”) is a 682 sq.km large Norwegian island, which belongs to Svalbard. The island is located in the Barentssea in the east of northeast country. It is nearly completely covered from ice and only a few places in the west and the north are free of ice.

 

The Nordaustlandet is a 14.600 sq.km large island in the northeast of the Norwegian administrative district Svalbard in the arctic. The island is uninhabited.

 

Osterøy is an island and a municipality in the Norwegian Fylke Hordaland. The island is located in the northeast from Bergen and is surrounded by the Osterfjord, Sørfjord and the Veafjord. The composer Ole Bull had once a country house on the island (in Valestrand).


The municipality Andøy consists of the two islands Andøy and Hinnøy. Half of the inhabitants are living in the administrative centre Andenes. Although Andøy is situated more north than Murmansk, the climate is comparatively mild by the gulf stream and has less frost days than Oslo. The midnight sun seems from 19. May to 25 July.


Askøy is an island and a municipality in the Norwegian Fylke Hordaland. Askøy is completely surrounded by fjords. In the north is the island municipality Meland situated, in the southeast Bergen, in the southwest Fjell and in the northwest Øygarden.

 

Bergsøya is one to the Sørøyane (south islands) belonging island in Sunnmøre (Møre og Romsdal). The archipelago is located in the southwest from Ålesund. Bergsøya belongs to the municipality Herøy. On the island is Fosnavåg situated, the principal place of the municipality. The island is connected with the neighbour islands Leinøya, Gurskøya, Remøya, Runde and Nerlandsøya by bridges.

 

Bjørnøya belongs to Norway and is 178 sq.km largely. It is located between the north cape and Spitzbergen. Together with the archipelago Spitzbergen forms it the territory Svalbard. The island was formerly a center of the whale and walrus hunt.


Fjell is an island municipality in the Norwegian Fylke Hordaland in the west of Bergen. The municipality consists of several islands under it Bildøy, Bjorøy, Litle Sotra , including the northern part of Sotra.


Frøya is an island, which is located in front of the coast of central Norway in the North Sea. With some surrounding islands it represents the most western convenient municipality in the Fylke Sør Trøndelag. In the 163 waters of the main island are living mainly trouts.


Gurskøya is one to the Sørøyane (south islands) belonging island in Sunnmøre (Møre og Romsdal). The archipelago is located in the southwest of Ålesund. The island is connected with the neighbour islands Hareidlandet, Leinøya, Bergsøya, Remøya, bird island Runde and Nerlandsøya by bridges.


Havøysund (Translation: “Tightness with the sea island”) is the administrative centre of the municipality Måsøy and is situated in northern Norway in the northwest of the administrative district (Fylke) Finnmark. Havøysund one starts daily by the ships of the Hurtigruten. Since 1988 Havøysund is connected by a bridge with the mainland.


Herdla is a 1.6 sq.km large island at the northern coast of the island Askøy near Bergen, Norway. The tourist goal Herdla is a species-rich bird area with approximately 220 registered kinds of birds. A fishing rod possibility exists from the bank or with the boat. Parts of Herdla are protected area.

 

Herøy is a Norwegian municipality in the Fylke Møre og Romsdal. It covers the archipelago of the Sørøyane in the southwest of Ålesund. Beside the inhabited islands Herøya, Leinøya, Bergsøya, Remøya, Runde and Nerlandsøya belongs also a part of the island Gurskøya to the municipality. All islands are connected with bridges.

 

Herøya is an island at the West - Norwegian coast in the middle of the Herøyfjord (Fylke Møre og Romsdal). The island possesses, as all islands of the municipality Herøy, a bridge connection with the mainland and is easy to reach without a ferry.


Hinnøy is with its 2.200 sq.km the second largest island of Norway behind Spitsbergen. It is connected with the mainland by the Tjeldsund bridge. Geographically the island is divided into Troms and Nordland, the largest city is Harstad.


Hitra is a municipality of the central Norwegian province Sør Trøndelag, which consists mainly of the island Hitra, which is pre-aged to the Trondheimsfjord. The principal place of the municipality is Fillan. The life of the municipality was always coined by the sea. There were for example large whale-catching stations, which are shut down now.

 

Hopen is an alone situated island, nearly 100 km in the southeast of Spitsbergen. Hopen is only ice-free from July until October and has no protected bay and no port. The fauna is limited to polar bears and polar foxes, as well as different kinds of birds, which spend the short summer here.

 

Ingøy is a small island 60 kilometers inthe west of the Cap North. On the island Ingøy is since 2000 a long wave transmitter of the Norwegian broadcast (NRK) situated.

 

Jan Mayen is a 373 sq.km largely island, situated approximately 650 km from Iceland in the Greenland Sea and is in political regard an exterritoriale area of Norway. The length of the coastal line amounts to about 124 km.

 

Karmøy is a skerry island in Norway, located between Stavanger and Haugesund and name of the administrative municipality, which covers the area of the island. The island is connected with the mainland by a bridge over the Karmsund.

 

Kvitsøy is a municipality in the Norwegian Fylke Rogaland. It consists of 365 islands. The municipality is surrounded by the outside parts of the Boknafjordes. Except seals (norw. kobbe) and small dolphins (norw. nise) are there no mammals. The islands has however a rich marine bird life.

 

Langøya is an island lain in the Langesundsfjord in front of Langesund in the Norwegian municipality Bamble in the Telemark Fylke. The island is a popular holidays area and admits for its rich Flora at limestone-loving plants. In the south of the island is the lighthouse Langøytangen fyr.


Leinøya is one to the Sørøyane (south islands) belonging island in Sunnmøre (Møre og Romsdal). The archipelago is situated in the southwest of Ålesund and belongs to Norway. The island is connected with the neighbour islands Gurskøya, Bergsøya, Remøya, Rundeand Nerlandsøya by bridges.

 

The island Magerøya (eng. for „meager island “) is a Norwegian island in the North Atlantic and is distant for approx. 6 km from the mainland. Principal place of the island is the Honningsvåg which was located at the south coast; the tourist attraction is however the North Cap, located in the north of the island.


Munkholmen is a small island in the Trondheimsfjord, nearly 2 kilometers outside of the city Trondheim. In the summer it is a popular trip goal for bathing and sun couches. Therefore there is a regular boat connection of Trondheim (Ravnkloa). Munkholmen is rich at history and is under monument protection.

 

Nerlandsøya is one to the Sørøyane (south islands) belonging island in Sunnmøre (Møre og Romsdal). The archipelago is situated in the southwest of Ålesund. In the southwest of the island is the today uninhabited island Skorpa situated, on which a herd of game goats are living.


Ombo is an island in the North Sea in close proximity to Haugesund (Norway). Ombo became famous by a rock in form of a nose, frequently designated as „a king Ombo “or as „Ombogubben/Adam “. The island belongs in each case to the half of the area to the two municipalities Hjelmeland and Finnøy.

 

Øygarden is an island municipality in the Norwegian Fylke Hordaland. It is located at the North Sea and is surrounded by fjords. The municipality Øygarden consists of approximately 450 islands, holms and skerries. Administrative center is the place Tjeldstø.

 

Radøy is an island and a municipality in the Norwegian Fylke Hordaland. It borders in the east on the municipality Lindås. The West - Norwegian emigration center (Vestnorsk Utvandringssenter) is in Sletta on Radøy.

 

Remøya is one to the Sørøyane (south islands) belonging island in Sunnmøre (Møre og Romsdal) in Norway. The archipelago is located in the southwest of Ålesund. Remøya belongs to the municipality Herøy. On the island are the localities Remøy and Sævik situated.

 

Rennesøy is a municipality in the Norwegian Fylke Rogaland. The municipality is formed by 8 islands: Rennesøy, Mosterøy, Bru, Fjøløy, Klosterøy, Vestre Åmøy, Sokn and Brimse. The municipality belongs to the landscape Ryfylke.

 

The bird island Runde belongs to the municipality Herøy and is situated at the West - Norwegian coast in the southwest of Ålesund. Those approximately 150 inhabitants of the island distribute themselves on the localities Runde and Goksøyr. The island is well - known as breeding colony for sea-birds. In the steep rocks are breeding each year approx. 170,000 pairs of sea-birds.

 

Spitsbergen is an island of the Svalbard archipelago between the North Atlantic and the arctic ocean, belonging to Norway and has a total area of 61.723 sq.km. On Spitsbergen is also a rocket launching site (SvalRak).

 

Stord is a municipality in the Norwegian Fylke Hordaland. It is located on the island Stord, where it borders in the north on the municipality Fitjar, which is also situated on the island Stord. Stord has city status. The administrative center of the municipality is called Leirvik. Here are living approximately 10.000 inhabitants.

 

The archipelago of the Sørøyane is located in the southwest of Ålesund at the west Norwegian coast in the Fylke Møre og Romsdal. To the Sørøyane are belonging the inhabited islands Leinøya, Bergsøya, Nerlandsøya, Remøya, Herøya and Runde as well as the uninhabited islands Skorpa and Svinøya and also a lot of holms and skerries.

 

Tjøme is the name of an island and an island municipality in the Norwegian province Vestfold. The name of the municipality probably comes from the norrønen “Tjúma”, which can be derived from “taumr” (rope). The name can be connected with the elongated form of the island.

 

Tysnes is an island municipality in the Norwegian Fylke Hordaland. It consists of a group of islands in the south of Bergen, where the Hardangerfjord meets the coast. The largest part of the municipality is situated on the island Tysnesøy.

 

Utsira is an island in the North Sea, which is located 18 km western in front of Karmøy and the smallest municipality of Norway. The island is also name giver for the sea-area of the same name.

 

Værøy is a municipality in the Fylke Nordland on the Lofoten in Norway. To Værøy a ferry goes from Røst and Moskenes. There it gives a helicopter connection to Bodø.

 

Vågsøy is a municipality in the northwest of the Norwegian province Sogn og Fjordane, in the south of Stad. Vågsøy is also the name of the largest island in the municipality.

 

Vardø is a municipality in the Fylke Finnmark in Norway. The municipality is located on a small island in front of the east coast or the pre-aged bird rock of the island Hornøy at the Barentssea and is the most eastern point of the country. The geographical situation is nearly the same geographical length as Istanbul or Cairo.
