Sweden

Alnön is a 75 sq.km large, the Swedish port Sundsvall pre-aged island in the Baltic Sea. It is situated in the historical Swedish province Medelpad and the province Västernorrlands län. The south of the island offers beautiful bath bays near Bänkåsviken, Tranviken, Slädaviken, Hartungviken and Grönviken. Here is also the typical fishing village Spikarna located.


The island Bolmsö in the Swedish Småland is the largest island in the lake Bolmen. On the island is a village of same name with approximately 390 inhabitants situated. Main source of income is the tourism. The island served in former times once as king residence.

 

The island Fjärdlång belongs to the numerous skerries of Stockholm. Fjärdlång has a surface of 10 sq.km and is located in the south of the Swedish capital Stockholm in the municipality Haninge. The highest rising is the 36 meters high Tysta Klint. Particularly is Fjärdlång a nice holiday island for children. It possesses beautiful bays and cliffs, where tourists can do kayak driving, swimming and fishing.

 

Frösön is the largest island in the lake Storsjön in the Swedish province Jämtlands län. The island is attainable over three bridges. From Östersund in the east over the Frösöbridge, from Genvalla in the west over the Vallsundbridge and from Rödön in the north over the Rödöbridge. In the west the airport of Östersund is situated at the island, on a former military area.


Fårö is a Swedish island in the Baltic Sea, which is separated only by a narrow sund from Gotland. Fårö is situated in the north of the island Gotland, from which it is separated by the Fårösund. From the place Fårösund on Gotland gives it approximately every 30 minutes a free ferry connection to Fårö with its island principal place of the same name.


Gotland is the second largest island of the Baltic Sea (behind Seeland (Denmark) and before Saaremaa (Estonia)). It is situated in the northeast of Öland and belongs to Sweden. Today Gotland is a popular holidays goal, for the Swedish population and is special because the climate of the Baltic Sea island is mild. Particularly the island is nice for bicycle tourists and young people.


Hallands Väderö is an island in front of Torekov in the south of Sweden. The island particularly admits as a goal for nature and bird friends. Hallends Väderö ranks today among the 10 most beautiful nature areas of Europe. There is the possibility of observing a colony of sea-dogs from the next proximity. It exists also a small nature museum.


Helgö is a small Swedish island (approx. 48 hectares) in the lake Mälaren, lain in the west of Stockholm, as well as the name of the place (approx. 100 inhabitants) on this island. Prominent adjacent resident on Helgö is the earlier Swedish Pop icon of the 70's and 80's Agnetha Fältskog (member of ABBA).


Hisingen is the fourth largest island of Sweden and belongs to the westSwedish port Göteborg. The island Hisingen is 199 square kilometers large. In the local part Lundby is the principal firm of Volvo situated, in which 1927 the first Volvo passenger vehicle was produced, and the Ramberget, which offers a beautiful view on the port of Göteborg with its height of 87 meters.


Märket is a flat rock, which rises on a surface from approximately 30.000 sq.m between the Swedish mainland and the Finnish Åland islands from the Baltic Sea. Märket is not durably inhabited, although three fastened buildings on Finnish territory are situated here. Beside a beacon exists as well as an automatic weather station a station for navigation systems.


Öland is a Swedish Baltic Sea island. It is connected for 6 km with the mainland since 1973 by a long bridge. Öland is 137 km long and maximally 16 km wide and thus the smallest Swedish landscape and belongs to the administrative district Kalmar län.


Urüst is the largest island at the Swedish west coast. It is situated in approximately 50 km in the north of Göteborg. It belongs to the district Bohuslän. On Urüst are living 15.000 inhabitants. The largest localities are Svanesund (in the southeast) and Henån (in the north). The island is connected by two bridges and two ferries with the mainland.


Rindö is an island or also a skerry in the municipality Vaxholm in Sweden. It is about five kilometers long and 446 hectares large. On it, in the places Rindöby and Oskar Fredriksborg are living as well as in holiday house settlements, about 1000 humans (2004). Ferry connections exist to Vaxholm and Värmdö as well as over a bridge a fixed connection to the island Skarpö.


Smögen is a Swedish place in the municipality Sotenäs, province Västra Götalands län. The place has about 1,500 inhabitants. Smögen is at the same time an island in the Skagerrak, which is also called Hasselön. The island is connected by the 500 meters long concrete bridge Smögenbron, which was finished in 1970, with the principal place Kungshamn. It originally consisted of several smaller islands, which "grew together" with the time.


Tjörn is an island in front of the west coast of Sweden in the province Bohuslän in the administrative district Västra Götaland. It is with its 167,3 sq.km the fifth-largest island of Sweden. On Tjörn are living 15,022 humans, which corresponds to 89 inhabitants per sq.km. The island Tjörn belongs to the municipality of the same name.


Ven (Danish Hven) is an island belonging to Sweden in the Öresund between Sjælland and Schonen, situated in the northwest of Landskrona. It belongs to the province Skåne län. The island consists of one about 40 meters high plateau (highest point is 45 meters over the sea level) , which drops to the sea usually steeply.


Visingsö is the largest island in the Swedish lake Vättern. It is situated in its southern part in about 30 kilometers in the north of Jönköping and six kilometers to the west of Gränna where also a ferry connection exists.
